On March 28, 269 MINIs gathered in Blackpool, England to set a new Guinness World Record for the “longest MINI convoy in the world”, breaking a record that was previously set by 195 cars from the Vancouver MINI club in 2004. The YouTube video above is a photo collage from the event. Looks like great fun!

 

Is MINI developing an SUV? According to reports from Automotive News and Motor Trend, an AWD crossover and even a pickup could be built on the stretched Clubman platform. The original MINI off-roader was a Jeep style car named the Moke that was doorless and had a canopy top. Whether MINI decides to use the classic Moke name still remains to be seen, but don’t rule it out yet as the original MINI was available in several different variants throughout the course of its life and BMW will most likely exploit the brand to its full potential. The Motor Trend report suggests a MINI SUV could be produced at BMW’s Spartanburg, South Carolina plant and arrive in dealers near 2010. Jump over to Motor Trend for the full story.
